"Once, in a dream, a friend told me about her fantastic home area, Lynx Valley. I immediately fell in love with the place and felt a strong sense of belonging. I had suddenly found the place where I wanted to live, where my musical wanderings could rest and develop further. When I woke up, I couldn’t remember what the valley looked like or where it was, but I remained completely infatuated with it."
The Johanna-Adele Jüssi Trio is an acclaimed acoustic folk ensemble led by Estonian fiddler Johanna-Adele Jüssi, alongside Norwegian musicians Bendik Lund Haanshus (guitars) and Christo Stangness (double bass). Together, they weave a hypnotic blend of Estonian and Nordic traditional music, contemporary jazz, and subtle ambient electronica. Their music centers around Gaupdalen (The Lynx Valley)—a mythical realm that Jüssi encountered in a dream. The trio brings this world to life through elegant musicianship, raw energy, and immersive storytelling, making them a standout act across the contemporary European folk scene.

Devilishly nice music written and performed by eminent people. It's dynamic, it's brilliant and incredibly atmospheric all the way through, and the genre mix with folk music as a starting point from several Nordic/Baltic (?) countries, mixed with a wonderful electro-acoustic vibe is delicious - all in a very well-played symbiosis between the three. And as if that wasn't perfect enough, there's improv and a clear jazz aspect every now and then, so we even got some strong improvised solos included.

The tunes are folk music-inspired, but know no borders. Here there are tones from the Swedish forests, long bows that transport us beyond the sea and the (mountain-) plateaus, and tools from the sudden dynamic throws of post-rock and the open improvisation of jazz. /--/ The stories and the jokes between the songs never cross over into the parodic, but contribute to establishing a nice and heartfelt connection between the musicians and the audience.
